Over the past five months, the Balkan Changemakers workshops have brought together young people from across the region to explore sustainability, justice, and active citizenship. Through discussions, games, group projects, and personal pledges, participants built knowledge and skills while connecting global challenges to their everyday lives.
The Balkan Changemakers Success Report now captures this journey, highlighting both impact and diversity. In total, around 112 youth took part across five countries. Most were aged 15–18, though in Greece the age range stretched from 10 to 30, creating an intergenerational exchange of perspectives. The overall gender balance was 64% female and 36% male, with inclusion at the core:
- Croatia: 12 participants (balanced gender, including one with special educational needs).
- Greece: 64 participants (broadest age range, including youth with disabilities).
- Serbia: 10 participants (including rural and marginalised groups).
- Romania: 16 participants (predominantly female, rural background).
- Bulgaria: 10 participants (rural youth facing geographical obstacles).
This diversity ensured that voices from rural areas, youth with disabilities, those with SEN, and marginalised groups were equally heard—not only those from urban, educated, or privileged settings.
The evaluation shows that beyond learning about concepts like circular economy, intergenerational equity, and civic engagement, participants strengthened teamwork, critical thinking, and communication. Most importantly, they left with the confidence to see themselves as active changemakers in their communities.
